Fayetteville, GA (March 28, 2005) – Piedmont Fayette Hospital will host a FREE Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm (AAA) screening for those at high-risk for AAA on Friday, April 29, beginning at 9 a.m. The screenings will be offered at 1279 Highway 54 West (next to Piedmont Fayette Hospital) on the 3rd floor in Conference Room C. This free screening is open to the public and is being offered to the Fayette community by the Fuqua Heart Center of Atlanta at Piedmont Hospital and LifeLine Screening. AAA, considered a silent killer because most people do not have symptoms upon diagnosis, is a bulge or “ballooning” that forms in the wall of the abdominal aorta. This bulge weakens the wall and can lead to a serious complication referred to as “rupture.” Risk factors for AAA include smoking, high blood pressure, a family history of AAA and cardiovascular or pulmonary disease. It is especially critical for men over 60 and women over 65 to get screened. Appointments are required and scheduled on a first come, first serve basis. Call 1-877-792-8489 to schedule an appointment.
