Helpful Tips

Piedmont Fayette Hospital is dedicated to you and your family’s health and wellness. It is indeed our mission to provide quality and innovative care for you and your family, and to ensure your safety.

Keep these valuable safety tips in mind in case you or a family member needs emergency care in the future.

  • Carry a list of your current prescription and over-the-counter medications. You can easily fit this list in your wallet or purse. You should also list the details of any recent illnesses and allergies. This list will help the emergency room physician determine what kind of treatment you should receive.
  • Wear an ID tag. Medical emergency identification cards, tags or bracelet helps emergency room staff know about your condition if you are unable to communicate with them. Emergency ID tags are available for people with diabetes, hemophilia, allergies and other common conditions.
  • Learn basic first aid. Time is crucial during an emergency. By taking a class in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), the Heimlich maneuver, and first aid, you can help provide immediate treatment until professionals arrive. Community colleges and the Red Cross offer basic first aid classes.
  • Bring important information with you to the ER. Bring identification, insurance, social security card, and physician and employer phone numbers and addresses with you to the Emergency Department. Being prepared helps the nurses and physicians during their evaluations and examinations.
  • Leave valuables at home.
  • Make sure your house is easily identifiable. Make sure your house number is clearly visible from the street when you need an ambulance to take you or your loved one to the ER.
  • When driving, always wear a seat belt.
